Hermione had her surgical consult this morning and, as expected, she has blown out her ACL and needs surgery. She also needs to have some work done on her knee cap. The vet said that this injury was probably a long time coming and pretty much inevitable. After the surgery it's two months living in a playpen with only five minute walks and physical therapy for exercise. I suspect strongly that Her Royal Highness will not approve. The vet also thinks she'll probably need to have her other knee done at some point, but we're not going to think about that yet. She goes in tomorrow morning and good thoughts are more than welcome. Thanks everyone!

Here's a segment of my would-be girlfriend making cocktails...

Wish a very happy day to one of my favourite economists (the others being [livejournal.com profile] knitress and Paul Krugman)!

A design by my friend Kate is one of three possibilities for the Spring 09 cover of Knitter's magazine. It's up for a vote if you are so inclined.

Her's is the first one, but vote your conscience. ;)

When we moved here over three years ago we had a little trouble getting car insurance because we'd been living outside the States. Allstate took us on and have made a fair chunk of change off of us since then. We recently got our bill and decided to do a bit of shopping around. Pretty much everyone else is cheaper, Geico and Progressive substantially so. I am wondering if any of you have had any experience with either of these companies? Are they reputable? Or is this a case of "you get what you pay for"?Any input would be welcome. Thanks!

The happiest of days to the wonderful Trace!
yav14: (Barack and Michelle)
I am returned from one of the most amazing days of my life. Not being able to feel my toes most of the day was a small price to pay. Ironically, pretty much all we've done since he was sworn in is break laws by colluding in breaking down fences, going ways we weren't supposed to, sneaking in the back door of a posh hotel to use their washrooms, walking through construction sites and so on. More details on our (mis)adventures when I've had a few hours of sleep.

But here are a couple of pictures... )

Fabulous day!

Saw Nancy, Tish and Diane today. It was wonderful! Diane had an adventure that I know she'll be sharing, if she hasn't already. The rest of this amazing day can be summed up in these two pictures...

The saging.

RACHEL!!!

We're off downtown in three hours. OMG!!!!! WOOOOT!!!

Yesterday our Obama group had our day of service by holding a food drive for Central Moravian Church.

It went really well, despite being FREEZING (around 15F)! Here are a few pictures and a link to an article about it... Look, Mom, I'm famous.

Cut for pictures )

Tomorrow is lunch with [livejournal.com profile] knitress, [livejournal.com profile] maiasaura and [livejournal.com profile] econopodder (woot!), yarn shopping with Nancy and then down to Dupont Circle with my PA Obama friends for the saging.

OK, I should mention that I've been taking this meme as a listing of one thing that made me happy on a particular day. But I'd be remiss if I didn't at least acknowledge the things that make me happy in the long term. And I am lucky to have a lot to make me happy including a fantastic husband, an amazing family, a crazy dog, and the best friends on the planet.

That said, it seems a little strange to say that the thing which made me happy today was that most lovable of serial killers, Dexter Morgan. But there it is.

Went to see Milk tonight with a bunch of my campaign pals. Great movie! And there was a moment where they were out campaigning and calling out "Are you registered to vote?" and we all burst out laughing. So been there, done that. A million times.

Hope you have a great one! Make the puppies dance for you. ;)
